MOU signing ceremony between BIOTEC of Thailand and the Université Catholique de Louvain

On the 13th December 2018, the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) and Belgian Coordinated Collections of Microorganisms/Mycology Université catholique de Louvain (BCCM/MUCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Research and Biotechnology at the residence of the Thai Ambassador in Brussels through a facilitation of the Office of Science and Technology in Brussels. It was delightful to have Dr. Somvong Tragoonrung, Executive Director of BIOTEC and Prof. Dr. Stephan Declerck, Director of BCCM/MUCL presiding as the signee and we were honoured to have H.E. Mr. Manasvi Srisodapol, the Ambassador of Thailand to Belgium and Luxembourg, and Thailand Mission to the EU, Ms. Marleen Bosschaerts Deputy-Director of the Research department from Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO), Dr. Philippe Desmeth International Cooperation Manager of BCCM from BELSPO and Dr. Manop Sittidech, Minister Counsellor(Science and Technology), Office of Science and Technology in Brussels as the witness of the signing ceremony.

The ceremony was organised to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Friendship between Thailand and Belgium and the MoU will serve as a gateway to the promising collaborative research partnership between Thailand and Belgium. Potential collaborative areas explored include taxonomic studies of target fungal groups, biofortification of economic crops and medicinal plants with useful endophytes and other interesting fungi, establishment of meristem cultures and development of preservation techniques for recalcitrant or unorthodox seeds.
